Organizational Assessment & Population of Interest
As mentioned in the module overview, it’s important to understand whether the organizational culture supports quality improvement and evidence-based practice (EBP). You also need to know the approval process for quality and EBP initiatives in your practice setting. Lastly, you should be able to describe the population that will be affected by your DNP project.
In the Resources section below, you’ll find tools to help you gather information about your practice setting. These tools are designed to assist you in assessing how ready your setting is to implement quality and EBP initiatives and to complete this assignment.
Assignments
You will need to interview your one-up leader in your practice setting and complete the organizational assessment worksheets provided (available in the Resources section below). After gathering the necessary information, you will write a short paper (3 to 5 pages, excluding the title page and references) that includes the following:
Organizational Description
- Briefly describe your practice site, including the population served, location, size, and site name.
- What is the leadership style of your organization’s senior leadership and your one-up leader?
- Is the DNP project idea a priority for the practice site? Provide a brief explanation.
- Does the DNP project idea align with a strategic initiative, goal, benchmark, standard, or metric of the practice setting? Explain and specify which strategic initiative, goal, benchmark, standard, or metric your project aligns with.
- If the DNP project idea does not align with the priorities of the practice site, would it still be supported by leadership? Briefly explain.
- Did you receive any other ideas from the leadership interview that could be developed into a DNP project? Explain briefly. If no additional ideas were provided, clearly state that.
- What is the approval process for projects in your practice setting?
- Name of the leader interviewed and their role in the practice setting.
Population of Interest
- Describe your population in enough detail to understand the health issues they face. You may include information like age, location, socioeconomic status, disease prevalence, ethnicity, and the practice setting.
- Discuss the social determinants of health that may impact your population of interest.
