Understanding Doctoral Expectations
As a student at Grand Canyon University, if you are pursuing a doctoral degree, there are certain expectations and dispositions that you are expected to uphold. Let’s break down what this means in simpler terms:
- Passionate Learner and Leader:
- You’re committed to your field and aim to become a leader in your community.
- You can motivate yourself to keep learning independently.
- Critical Thinker:
- You value thinking deeply about things and receiving feedback.
- You’re open to new ideas, ready to question assumptions, and consider different perspectives.
- Reflective Practitioner:
- You’re committed to thinking about your own actions and asking questions, both to yourself and others.
- Effective Communicator:
- You understand and know how to communicate well.
- Ethical Researcher:
- You’re committed to doing research that is ethical and academically honest.
- You solve problems and enhance your professional performance to contribute to your field globally.
To make sure you understand and follow these expectations, here are a few things you need to do:
- Attend the “Doctor of Nursing Orientation Webinar” before starting the program.
- Know your way around the resources available to you, like “Direct Practice Improvement Project Groups and Associated Milestones,” “DNP Learner Expectations,” and “DNP Direct Practice Improvement Project Recommendations” in the DC Network.
- Be good at using APA, PowerPoint, and writing resources in the Writing Center of the Student Success Center.
Now, there’s a form you need to fill out to confirm that you’ve gone through all this information and that you agree to follow these expectations. It’s just a way to make sure everyone is on the same page.
So, you write your name, confirm that you’ve attended the required orientation, and that you’ve checked out all the important resources. Then, you sign and date it to show that you agree to stick to these expectations throughout the program.
This way, everyone knows what’s expected, and you’re all set to make the most of your doctoral journey at Grand Canyon University!
