NURS 6521 – Advanced Pharmacology
Having a strong understanding of drug therapy concepts and principles for all age groups is crucial for advanced practice nurses. In this course, students apply advanced pharmacology principles, including pharmacogenomics, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics. They analyze common drug classes prescribed by advanced practice nurses throughout a person’s life. The course covers factors that affect successful therapy, like effectiveness, safety, acceptability, cost, genetic and environmental influences, complementary treatments, and patient behaviors. By taking this course, students get ready to make complex decisions in managing and treating various diseases, using both drug and non-drug approaches. Advanced practice nursing students gain a deeper understanding of drug legislation and regulations related to prescribing medications.
